This statement on UN World Water Day, March 22, 2017, questions the standards, criteria, and context that colonial patriarchy supports as the Eurocentric status quo. It was released during Commission on the  Status of Women, which meets again March 2018 to, among other things, empower rural women.  This year in 2017 the UNCSW61 focused on empowering indigenous women and highlighted colonial-controlled education and indigenous-owned businesses (not indigenous woman-owned) as ways to empower indigenous women.
